Arsenal young sensation, Alex Iwobi has expressed his desire to represent Nigeria at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro Brazil, after the Super Eagles failed to qualify for next year’s Africa Cup of Nations.

The 19-year-old committed his future to Nigeria after making his international debut during an Africa Cup of Nations qualifying defeat to Egypt.

The Arsenal forward who has been in fine form since making his first team start against Barcelona last month, may miss the first few games for the Gunners next season if selected for the Olympics as the tournament isn’t scheduled to finish until August 20 and the Premier League season starting on August 13.

Speaking to Goal on Tuesday, the Nigerian said: “I am looking forward to the forthcoming Olympics and if I am invited, I will do my best to make a meaningful contribution.

“I believe that Nigeria has a crop of excellent players who are capable of doing great things at the Olympics.

“Coach Samson Siasia deserves a lot of praise for securing a place for the nation at the Olympics.

“I do not have any regrets whatsoever in opting to play for Nigeria and will always do my best whenever I put on the green white green colours of Nigeria.

“I hope to be involved in the forthcoming World Cup qualifiers too.”
