Japan Defeat: Sports Minister Hails Dream Team VI

Following the Nigeria U-23 victory over Japan in their opening game at the Rio Olympics on Friday morning, Minister of Sports Solomon Dalung has congratulated the team for their doggedness despite arriving the country few hours to the game.

The minister who celebrated the Dream team VI via a message on his Facebook page, urged them to continue to defy all odds as President Muhammadu Buhari is proud of their achievement.

Samson Siasia’s side, defeated Japan 5-4 win at the Amazonia Arena in Manaus on Friday morning.

He further praised their determined spirit, that despite all setbacks surrounding their arrival they still made the country proud by winning their game against Japan.

The statement reads: “I heartily congratulate the National U-23 football team for their outstanding 5-4 victory over Japan in their opening Group B game.

“The Dream Team VI not only showed resilience in the face of adversity but demonstrated patriotism, team work and the CAN DO SPIRIT that Nigerians are known for globally.

“I urge them to put aside all that happened in Atlanta and focus on the challenges ahead.

“The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari is proud of your achievement this morning and will continue to support you as you seek to relive the 1996 feat.

“God Bless the Dream Team VI. God bless Nigeria.”

Meanwhile, Nigeria face Sweden in their second game on Sunday August 7, 2016.
