JUST IN: Supreme Court Repeats Hembe’s Sack From House of Reps

House of Representatives member, Herman Hembe’s sack has been reaffirmed by the Supreme Court in Abuja.

This comes after Hembe approached the apex court to seek redress of his case at a lower court.

But rather than grant Hembe’s request, the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Walter Onnoghen, turned the lawmaker down, after which he awarded the sum of N1 million against him in favour of Dorathy Mato, the defendant.

Justice Onnoghen told Hembe that the law “does not allow them to review what they have already decided.”

“You cannot call on us to review that decision we have taken whether right or wrong. Right or wrong, that decision remains final.

“If there is any other court above this, then you can challenge this decision.

Speaking further, Justice Onnoghen said, “There must be an end to litigation and Hon Hembe should understand that the judgment of 23rd June 2017 had settled every dispute between parties”, adding that the decision of the “Supreme Court is the final court and by virtue of the 1999 Constitution, our decision is final.”

The CJN equally directed Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, to swear in Mato as the authentic member to represent Vandeikiya/Konshisha federal constituency of Benue State.
