London Attack: ISIS Claims Responsibility, Says Attacker Is ‘Soldier Of The Caliphate’

The Islamic State, ISIS, has claimed responsibility for the London terror attack which killed 5 people and left dozens injured.

The extremist group in a statement via its propaganda news service, Amaq News Agency, said the attacker was a “soldier of the caliphate”.

“The perpetrator of the attacks yesterday in front of the British parliament in London is an Islamic State soldier and he carried out the operation in response to calls to target citizens of the coalition,” the statement released Thursday said.

At least five persons were killed and 20 others injured in London on Wednesday after a car plowed into pedestrians along Westminster Bridge and an attacker stabbed a policeman close to the British parliament.

The dead included the assailant and the policeman he stabbed, while the other three victims were among the pedestrians hit by the car before crashing into railings just outside parliament.

The CNN reports that the three people killed in the London terror attack were a veteran policeman, a teacher and an American tourist.

Kurt Cochran, who was visiting London from Utah with his wife, died as a result of injuries sustained in the attack, his family and church said.

Aysha Frade, a 43-year old teacher with family in Spain, was identified as another victim.

Keith Palmer, a 48-year-old father and husband, was the unarmed police officer on duty at the gates of Parliament when the attacker stabbed him to death.

British Prime Minister, Theresa May said the attacker was British born and once linked to violent extremism, adding that he had been investigated by security services but was regarded as a “peripheral figure.”

The attacker, Khalid Masood, is a 52-year-old man from Central England, British police say. No fewer than 8 people have been arrested in connection with the attack.
