Workers Narrowly Escape Death As Building Collapses In Enugu

No fewer than two people sustained various degree of injuries when a storey building collapsed at Nkpokiti Layout Enugu State, on Thursday morning.

The workers who escaped death by the whiskers said they were working when they heard a caving sound and quickly jumped down from the stairs.

The collapsed building which was still undergoing construction is said to belong to the Speaker of Enugu state House of Assembly, Hon. Edward Ubochi.

The speaker however failed to respond to text messages put accross for him to confirm ownership of the house.

The commissioner Enugu Capital Territory Development Authority, ECTDA, Mr. Chidi Aroh, who came to the scene of the incident said his agency has since August 2016 gave order for stop of work at the site.

He then sent a letter to the commissioner of police demanding for the arrest of the Engineer in charge of the site.

Aroh further ordered that all ongoing construction in the estate be put on hold until approval plans are verified, adding that a similar incidence will not occur again under Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi-led administration.

“This is the first time building collapses is taking place in  Enugu state since the inception of this administration and I can assure you that by the grace of God such will not happen again,” said Aroh.
