Uber Launches In Abuja

Uber, a technology company that helps people get a ride at the tap of a button, launched in Abuja, the capital of Africa’s largest economy on Wednesday.

Abuja became the 400th city the company launched its service, 18 months after the same service was launched in Lagos.

Speaking at the launch which was held at Transcorp Hilton Abuja, the General Manager for Uber Lagos, Ebi Atawodi said: “We’re really excited to be launching Uber in Abuja. Uber gives the people of Abuja an affordable, easy and flexible choice to move around the city safely and reliably.

“For those who don’t know, Uber moves around millions of global citizens every day, offering affordable and reliable rides at the touch of a button. By offering a friendly and reliable complement to existing transport options, we can help improve urban mobility in Abuja, reduce traffic congestion and the environmental impact of vehicles at the same time.”

Uber app – which has been considered the most convenient way to get a safe, reliable and affordable ride – detects your location, tells you about your driver in advance, and you can choose to pay with card or cash so it is easy and safer for both riders and drivers.

Earlier Thursday, the first Uber’s started roaming the streets of Abuja.

Terms and Conditions for free rides

•Free rides are available from Wednesday, 23 March 2016 at 07:00 until Monday, 28 March 2016 at 00:00.

•Each trip is limited to a maximum of N3000

•Note that free rides are only valid for trips that start & end in the Abuja coverage area (for example, Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Maitama, Asokoro, Utako, Gwarinpa)
