A former Captain of Nigeria’s national football team, Sunday Oliseh has been officially unveiled by the Nigeria Football Federation as new coach of the Super Eagles.

Mr Oliseh was unveiled On Wednesday in Abuja, after he finally signed a contract with the NFF which ties him to the Super Eagles until 2020, becoming the fifth player in the 1994 class to handle the senior national team after Austin Eguavoen, Samson Siasia, Daniel Amokachi and Stephen Keshi.

Speaking at the ceremony, the President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Amaju Pinnick, assured Mr Oliseh that “the federation will give him all the support he needs to succeed”.

In his speech, Oliseh said, “It’s a great honour to be coach of this great national team,”

“I’m not coming as a messiah. I’m coming as a man who wants to serve his country and give 150%.

“Gone are the days when we had individual players who can win games on their own. But we have potential.” he said.

He also laid down the law to players of Nigerian origin on his requirements before they can feature on his team.

“No player outside of first division in Nigeria or elsewhere will play for the Super Eagles. We will work together with the technical committee because if we fail, they fail.”

Oliseh concluded.

The 40 year-old is taking over from Coach Stephen Keshi and will immediately begin preparations for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier away to Tanzania in the first week of September as well as an international friendly yet to be announced.
