This was made known in a statement jointly signed by the group’s secretary general, Mr Omoniyi Akingunola and executive secretary, Mr Olusola Akinbinu, and made available to THE WHISTLER.

THE WHISTLER had reported that the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Tanko Muhammad, had on November 6 sworn-in eight new Justices of the Supreme Court.

They are: Hon. Justice M. Lawal Garba ( North West), Hon. Justice Helen M. Ogunwumiju (South West),Hon. Justice Addu Aboki (North West), Hon. Justice I. M. M. Saulawa (North West),Hon. Justice Adamu Jauro ( North East), Hon. Justice Samuel C. Oseji (South South),Hon. Justice Tijjani Abubakar(North East); and Hon. Justice Emmanuel A. Agim (South South).

Ekimogun observed that Ogunwumiju’s enlistment would further take the Nigerian judiciary to the next level of greatness within the confines of the provisions of the constitution.

“This feat cannot be achieved by brilliance alone. It is a product of trust carefully won from the society, in over 40 years of consistent, dexterous service to the Nation. She had always impacted substantially at every responsibility.

“Ogunwumiju’s innovative contributions to addressing pressing issues in the Nigerian justice system has been remarkable. As the Presiding Judge of the Court Of Appeal Benin Division, she is adjudged to be the first to adopt technology in addressing issues of information and communication, contributing to the slow justice system in Nigeria. All other divisions have been called to emulate Benin Division under Ogunwumiju.

“She had given thoughts on several critical issues that affects the Nigerian economy. Among these is the issue of religious narratives given to many situations, and this have lead to devastating consequences. She had counselled the nation on timely focus on the root causes of issues. If we do these, situations will not degenerate into religious crises and wars,” the statement partly read.
