Two persons suspected to have killed Helen Sunday, the orderly of Enugu State Deputy Governor Cecilia Ezeilo, are now in the police net, Enugu State Police Public Relations Officer Ebere Amaraizu said in a statement in Enugu.

According to the statement, issued Wednesday, the suspects were apprehended by the police command’s anti-kidnapping squad.

It would be recalled that Helen was shot dead by suspected hoodlums on May 9 close to her house after closing from her official duties.

Mr Amaraizu said the arrest by the squad followed ‘a well-coordinated operation borne out of intelligence information’.

“The suspects, Emmanuel Onyeabor and Kanu Oti, were arrested a day after the incident at their various hideouts at Lomalinda axis of Independence Layout and Amorji Nike axis of Abakpa, Enugu, after a gun duel which left the suspects fatally injured. The command had launched a manhunt for some members of the gang who escaped with gunshot wounds,” he said in the statement.

He therefore called on the members of the public to report to the police anyone seen with bullet wounds, adding that the suspects confessed to the crime, but claimed their motive was to rob their victim and not to kill her.
