Suspended SGF, NIA DG, To Know Fate Monday

The Presidential Investigative Committee set up by President Muhammadu Buhari is scheduled to present its report to the president on Monday, May 8, 2017, the Presidency report.

The Presidency in a statement via its official Twitter handle on Wednesday, said the three-man committee, headed by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo completed its assignment today, May 3, 2017.

Recall that Mr. Buhari had a fortnight ago set up the committee, which includes the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), the National Security Adviser, Babagana Monguno, to conduct a thorough investigation into allegations of corruption levelled against two top government officials.

The officials are, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr. David Lawal; and the Director-General of National Intelligence Agency, Ambassador Ayo Oke.

The duo are currently facing suspension from their respective offices over corruption allegations leveled against them.

Lawal was suspended in connection with the award of contracts under the Presidential Initiative on the North-East (PINE).Oke was suspended in connection with discovery of large amounts of foreign and local currencies by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in a residential apartment at Osborne Towers, Ikoyi, Lagos, over which the NIA has made a claim.

The investigation is also to enquire into the circumstances in which the NIA came into possession of the funds, how and by whose or which authority the funds were made available to the NIA, and to establish whether or not there has been a breach of the law or security procedure in obtaining custody and use of the funds.
