Teenagers, Others Broke Out Of Police Cell In Osogbo, To Spend 5 Years In Jail

A Chief Magistrate’s Court in Osogbo has sentenced a 15-year old boy, Pelumi Ayoola and two other teenagers, Segun Ishola and Maliq Odewale to five years imprisonment for escaping from a police detention after breaking the roof.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Abayomi Ajala, also sentenced 20-year-old Abeeb Adeleke to five years jail term along with the minor and the teenagers.

He, however, gave the convicts an option of fine of N9,000 and added that they will be given six strokes of cane.

Upon their arraignment, the police prosecutor told the court that the four of them destroyed an iron door and roofing sheet of Dugbe Police Station, Osogbo and escaped from lawful custody of the police.

The prosecutor, Kayode Adeoye, said, “That you Adeleke Abeeb; Segun Ishola; Maliq Odewale and Pelumi Ayoola and one other at large on the same date, time and place at the aforementioned magisterial district did escape from the lawful custody of Dugbe Police Station and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 135(a) of the Criminal Code Cap 34 vol. II laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2002.”

Although the case that took them to the police station was not mentioned, they pleaded guilty to the three counts including escaping from custody.

The convicts were sentenced to
two years imprisonments on first count or to pay a fine of N5000;
two years imprisonments for second count or pay N2000; one year imprisonment for the last count or to pay N2000.

The jail terms are to run concurrently while the fine is N9000 and six strokes of cane.
