Ten Persons Escaped Death After Trailer Driver Lost Control In Anambra

Ten persons, Sunday afternoon, cheated death by whiskers when a Mack trailer, with registration number JJT57XA latched with a 40ft container, rammed into a white-coloured Mitsubishi pickup with registration number LND260XK along Awka-Onitsha expressway.

The trailer driver was said to have lost control of the vehicle due to brake failure.

According to RC Pascal A. Anigbo, sector public education officer, Anambra State Command of the Federal Road Safety Commission, the accident occurred at New Tarzan junction. He told THE WHISTLER in Awka that, “The trailer driver lost control of the vehicle as a result of brake failure, and rammed into the Mitsubishi pickup as it ascended the concrete road demarcation. Ten victims (nine male adults and one female adult) were involved in the crash. Three victims (all males) sustained varying degrees of injury. No death was recorded. The injured victims were rushed to Madueke Memorial Hospital by some good samaritan before the arrival of the FRSC rescue team from Upper-Iweka outpost.”

He said the sector commander of the FRSC, Anambra State, CC Andrew A. Kumapayi, while commiserating with the injured, reiterated the importance of ensuring that vehicles were checked and serviced regularly, especially the braking systems in articulated vehicles, to avoid unnecessary road mishaps.
