The ‘No-Nonsense’ CP Wakili Who Dared Arrest Kano State Deputy Governor

At a time some officers and men of the Nigerian Police Force are getting Knocks for allegedly working with politicians to undermine the electoral process in Nigeria’s elections, the case of one police officer CP Muhammad Wakili, the Kano State Police Commissioner is different, as he is instead receiving accolades for protecting the electoral process.

THE WHISTLER earlier reported that CP Wakili arrested the deputy governor of Kano State alongside the State commissioner for local governments for allegedly trying to disrupt election process at the INEC collation centre in Nasarawa Local government area of Kano State.

They duo who were arrested allegedly For attempting to destroy result sheets in Nasarawa Local government as the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Abba Kabir Yusuf leads from the results announced in 43 out of the 44 LGAs in the state.

The Deputy Governor Arrested By Kano Police Officers

Although the Police is not expected to charge the arrested deputy governor for any offense due to his immunity from prosecution as guaranteed by the constitution of Nigeria. It would though be the first time a politician in the capacity of a sitting deputy governor would be arrested for an offense.

Mohammed who was deployed from Katsina to Kano State in February before the Presidential elections by the Acting Inspector General of police, Muhammad Adamu, was once the Zonal head of Nigeria’s Anti Corruption agency, The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Nicknamed ‘Maza Kwaya-Mata Kwaya’ over a viral video of him berating drub abusers, CP Wakili has become a celebrity of some sort in Kano due to his no-nonsense approach to policing. He is constantly mobbed by admiring youths whenever he makes public appearance anywhere. And he sure doesn’t shy away from addressing the youths at every occasion.

CP Mohammed Wakili was seen moving from one polling point to the other, monitoring the election proceedings during the governorship and State assembly election held on March 9, 2019. Each time he makes a stop in any area, voters and residents troop out in their numbers to praise and show their admiration for their beloved Police commissioner.

As News of CP Wakili’s arrest of Kano deputy Governor filtered, Nigerians took to Twitter, a social-blogging platform to praise the professionalism of the uncommon Police Commissioner.
