Three Modular Refineries Ready For Commissioning In Rivers, Delta, Imo

The country has now added three more modular refineries which would soon be commissioned.

This was disclosed by senior special assistant to the president on Niger Delta Affairs, office of the Vice President on Monday via twitter.

This is a footage of the Niger Delta Petroleum Resources modular refinery situated in Rivers State. This brownfield modular refinery which recently underwent an upgrade is ready for commissioning. The 3 modular refineries are: Niger Delta Petroleum Resources modular refinery, Rivers, Opac modular refinery, Delta and Waltersmith refinery, Imo.

Niger Delta Petroleum Resources Ltd, Rivers State, kicked off in 2011,as a 1,000bpd modular refinery. it has been the only functioning modular refinery in Nigeria for years but has now added 5,000bpd.

Recall that in 2018, NNPC approved licenses for 13 modular refineries. According to the then Group Managing Director of the corporation, Dr. Maikanti Baru, 35 expressions of interest for the establishment of modular refineries were declared but only 13 were issued licenses by the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR).

A modular petroleum refinery is a process plant for refining crude oil that is engineered and constructed on largely skid-mounted structures.
