Thunder Kills 15 Cows In Ekiti

The incident was said to have caused fear in the area as residents remained indoors to avoid being struck by what the locals call ‘ara.’

A resident of Ipole told our correspondent that the belief in the community is that thunder strikes only the bad persons who had probably stolen something or had done something wicked.

However, community leaders have raised the alarm that the dead cows could cause an outbreak of epidemic in the area because they have not been buried as a result of heavy rainfall throughout Saturday and the huge sizes of the animals.

The Asaoye of Ikogosi Ekiti, Chief Ayo Ademiluwa, who confirmed the development, said the sizes of the cows and the rains throughout Saturday made arrangement for the burial of the animals a difficult task.

He said, “We are appealing to government agencies responsible for this kind of situation to come in urgently to the aid of the communities to avert epidemic.

“This is the tourism corridor of the state; we cannot afford the outbreak of any epidemic. The animals should be buried without wasting more time so that there won’t be an outbreak of cholera here.”
