Tinubu Celebrates Hausa People, Hails Their Role In Nigeria’s Development

President Bola Tinubu has praised the Hausa people for their contributions to Nigeria’s growth, describing them as an important force in the country’s economic, cultural and social development.

Tinubu stated this in a message marking the 2026 World Hausa Day, celebrated on Wednesday at the historic Daura Palace in Katsina State.

The President also commended the resilience of the Hausa people and the global spread of their language, describing Hausa as an important means of communication, commerce and cultural connection.

“The Hausa language, without doubt, has flourished and has become a major language of unity and commerce across the world,” Tinubu said.

He congratulated the Hausa community on the celebration and acknowledged the significance of holding the event at the palace of the Emir of Daura.

This year’s celebration, themed “Our Culture, Our Future,” focused on preserving the Hausa language, traditions and cultural heritage for future generations.

The event attracted traditional rulers, academics, cultural figures and other stakeholders, while activities promoting Hausa language and culture continued online and in different parts of the world.

World Hausa Day was initiated on August 26, 2015, by Nigerian journalist Abdulbaki Aliyu Jari as an advocacy platform for promoting the language, particularly in the digital space.

Jari encouraged Hausa speakers to use the language more extensively on social media, develop Hausa expressions for emerging concepts and technologies, and showcase aspects of Hausa culture and traditions.

Over the years, the initiative has grown beyond its original online campaign into an annual celebration with participation from Hausa language scholars, journalists, activists and academic institutions in Nigeria and other countries.

The movement has also continued to draw attention to the preservation and development of Hausa amid changes in technology, communication and global culture.
