The incident has created fear among residents of the area, forcing many of them to close shops and stay indoors.

An eye witness said, “The perpetrators warned the rider to remain indoors. The owner and his passengers were unhurt.

“The keke was carrying passengers. They forced the occupants out, collected their phones and set the keke ablaze.”

Meanwhile, civil servants in the state shunned their offices today.

At the state secretariat, workers were seen discussing outside the building.

Some of them left for home immediately they came. Vehicular movement is also scanty. Most banks did not also open for business.

One of them, Moses Enekwe, said, “I think this sit-at-home has come to stay. I’m surprised that despite the cancellation by the IPOB, this is happening. Who is now behind this?”

Security operatives were seen moving in groups to maintain peace in the state capital.
