UniAbuja Clarifies Post-UTME Grading System Amidst Parental Concerns

The University of Abuja has provided clarification on the Post-UTME grading system after concerns from parents and candidates regarding perceived differences between their results and scores.

The university’s admissions office explained on its Facebook page that the Post-UTME grading system is technical and does not simply assess results blindly.

It noted that each candidate’s performance is evaluated in relation to the course applied for.

“We have received inquiries from parents and candidates regarding perceived differences between their results and post-UTME scores.

“We wish to provide clarification to address these concerns. The post-UTME grading system is technical and does not simply assess results blindly.

“Each candidate’s performance is evaluated in relation to the course applied for. For instance, a candidate seeking admission into MBBS will have biology given greater weight, while economics carries no relevance for that course.

“On the other hand, for a candidate applying for economics or related programmes, economics will be prioritised over biology. Thus, even if two candidates have identical grades, the variation in subject relevance naturally leads to different post-UTME scores,” the office said.

The office assured parents that the system is transparent, credible, and aligned with established standards.

It also urged stakeholders to trust the process, as the institution is committed to fairness and accuracy in admissions.
