US: White House Insists It Would Halt Funding Until WHO Acknowledges Mistakes

The United States White House, in a statement on Thursday, says funding for the World Health Organization (WHO) would remain halted until the organization acknowledges its mistakes regarding the Coronavirus outbreak.

The White House also urged the leadership of WHO to come forth with the truth about Coronavirus.

“In a global health crisis, telling the truth is a matter of life and death.

“In this basic duty, the WHO failed.

President Trump had halted U.S. funding for the organization, on the grounds that WHO was doing a cover up for China.

“Maybe WHO will reform, and maybe they won’t, but we’ll be able to see,” Trump said.

Recall that Bill Gates had urged the U.S. not to halt funds to the global health agency, adding that WHO was most competent in addressing the pandemic than any other organization.

The U.S is the largest donor to WHO, contributing 400 to 500 million dollars each year, according to a White house document.

But WHO had expressed disappointment at the position of Donald Trump on the matter, but added that it would fill up any funding gap.

WHO also warned that no nation or race should be stigmatized as per the source of Coronavirus.

Covid-19, which is a SARs-like virus broke out from Wuhan, China in late November, and later became a global pandemic infecting about 2 million people in about 4 months.
