Eight Nollywood Stars Who Failed As Musicians
It’s never easy making the switch from acting to singing, and the trajectory of some big Nollywood names have proved this.
A handful of big Nollywood stars have all tried their hands at music and failed.
These Nollywood stars have released one or two singles while some even went as far as releasing an album but still failed to sail.
Perhaps, music talents are not available yet in Nollywood.
THEWHISTLER takes a look at some great actors who failed to become music stars.
Genevieve Nnaji
In 2005, popular Nollywood actress, Genevieve Nnaji released a song titled ‘No More’
Nnaji may have thought that her popularity as movie star would make fans love her music.
She was disappointed as the fans
seemed not pleased by her efforts. The famous actress went underground afterwards amid the backlash.
Tonto Dikeh
Nigeria actress, Tonto Charity Dikeh has also failed as musician. Her singles “Get High” and “It’s over” were not received well by Nigerians.
Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde
Omotola, popularly known as Omo Sexy, in 2005 also tried her talent in music. She released two singles “Gba” and “Missing You”.
But the god of music was not in her favour. She went back to movies.
Anita Joseph
Another actress that delved into the music industry but quickly retraced her steps.
Patience Ozokwor
Patience Ozokwor, better known as Mama G, also tried her hands at music.
She went as far as releasing a video for her single,”Adaeze” back in 2012. After that, the songs dried up in her.
Patience Ozokwor has since gone back to acting.
Jim Iyke
The list of wannabe Nollywood singers will not be complete without the name of controversial actor, Jim Iyke.
The former Globacom ambassador also delved into music but failed spectacularly.
The Nollywood actor released some songs in 2009 titled ‘Who Am I’ featuring one of Nigeria’s popular musicians, Tuface Idibia.
He spent a fortune on radio and television to hype the album but nothing happened.He could not replicate his achievements as a movie star in the Music Industry.
Nkem Owoh
Veteran actor Nkem Owoh Popularly referred to as Osofia tried music but didn’t do well.
He released not less than 5 videos to promote his music career, including songs such as: I Go Chop Your Dollar, Olamma, Akalaka, Marry Me and School Na Good Thing, but success did not come.
John Okafor
John Okafor, otherwise known as Mr. Ibu, is a highly skilled and successful actor who has carved a niche for himself as one of the most hilarious actors in Nigeria.
He released an audio/video album some years back, but it was not a musical success.He had since gone back to his acting career.
