VIDEO: Panic As Fire Razes Building In Imo

Residents of number 17 Steve Orji street, works layout, Owerri in Imo State are counting their losses as the burning of grasses from a neighboring compound have razed their building.

It took the timely intervention of fire fighters to stop the fire which started about 5pm from affecting other buildings around the area.

According to an eyewitness who lives in one of the compounds beside the affected building, the fire was caused by the carelessness from the people contracted to burn the grasses in the compound.

She said, “ The fire started in the compound around 5pm because that was when I was informed by my neighbour.

“I thank God that the intervention of the fire fighters helped to stop the fire from spreading to our compound or other compounds.”

Also, another eyewitness, Mr Harrison Isani said that the timely intervention of the former speaker, Imo State House Of Assembly, Kennedy Ibe and some other prominent public figures around the vicinity led to the timely intervention of fire fighters.

He said, “ The former speaker, Imo State House of Assembly, Hon. Kennedy Ibe was on ground to monitor the fire fighters arrest the fire outbreak.

“ It took the fire fighters two trips of water to totally control the outbreak.”
