VIDEO: ‘This Is Rising Sun, Not Biafra’ — Detained Actor Chiwetalu Agu Lectures Soldiers

Detained veteran Nollywood actor, Chiwetalu Agu, has said that the outfit he was wearing when soldiers arrested him at Upper Iweka, Onitsha, Anambra State, on Thursday “is a civil dress.’

He was seen in a viral online video explaining to the soldiers that the material used in making the outfit does not represent Biafra or the Eastern Security Network (ESN) — the paramilitary arm of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), a pro-Biafra separatist movement in the South-East region.

THE WHISTLER had reported that the 65-year actor was arrested by Nigerian soldiers for allegedly putting on the outfit that has elements of the Biafran flag.

Confirming his arrest on Thursday, the Nigerian Army spokesman, Onyema Nwachukwu, had said the actor was arrested for supporting and soliciting support for the proscribed separatist group, IPOB.

“Troops of the Nigerian Army have arrested one Chinwetalu Agu while inciting members of the public and soliciting for support for the proscribed IPOB.

“Dressed in a very well-known attire of the proscribed group, Chinwetalu Agu was picked up for questioning while Inciting members of the public to join the proscribed group.”

Meanwhile, the actor who is known for his comic roles in Nollywood movies, was seen in the video sitting on bare concrete floor while defending his outfit.

He said: “I can wear this; my vehicle is parked at the center of upper Iweka. This is rising sun, not Biafra, not Eastern Security Network, do you understand.”

He was asked to stand up from the floor by the soldiers as he continued his explanations.

“With my Education, I know areas to go and areas not to go. It’s better for you to be videoing all this because your oga is talking.

“So, lets listen to the facts then know how to react to the facts. This is a civil dress.”

On what he was doing at Onitsha, he said: “I was buying bread, N10,000 worth of bread, sharing them one by one, no campaign, nothing.

 “Nobody was doing demonstration or carrying placard. People who were hungry I was giving them bread. Is it wrong to feed?”
