Wamakko To Tambuwal: Your Defection To PDP Baffles Me, I Pity You

Alhaji Aliyu Wamakko, former Sokoto State Governor and supposed political godfather of Governor Aminu Tambuwal, has expressed pity that the latter left the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Speaking in an interview with the BBC Hausa service on Thursday, Wamako, who is the current Senator representing Sokoto North, equally expressed shock at Tambuwal’s defection to the PDP on Wednesday.

In the interview he granted in Kaduna, the Senator said he expected the governor to “iron out” whatever grievances he had with the ruling party rather than dump the party for an opposition party.

Wamako said, “Politics is always full of surprises, but it is pitiable for a young man like him (Tambuwal) to be make such decision in life.

“It has been long that people of Sokoto stopped running politics because particular persons are in it. And as a result of that, if someone quits and says he is leaving Buhari, that will be surprising and unfortunate.

“If I have any issues regarding repairs of APC, leaving the party is not the ideal thing, and that won’t show one knows what he is doing.

“Issues should be ironed out, truth be identified and be worked with. The people am representing in Sokoto are in support of Buhari and their loyalty to APC is intact, and as result of that I won’t disappoint my people,” he added.

Meanwhile, THE WHISTLER recalls that Governor Tambuwal had amongst the reasons he dumped the ruling APC alleged that the party failed to “herald a new order of true democracy under an atmosphere of justice, peace, equity and the rule of law” as it made those who joined its merger ahead of the 2015 elections believe.

He said, “Now, almost four years into what ought to be a new order as desired and elected by Nigerians, the nation is unfortunately going through the most difficult and precarious times, since the Civil war; with ethno, religious and regional distrust at its highest ebb,” adding that “This development had often been blamed on political opponents. Meanwhile, there are issues of brazen inequity and capacity and questionable distribution of appointments/projects. This is in addition to lack of statesmanship in responding to national issues, among other things that are for aggravating the anomaly.”
