We Will Deny VIPs Who Flout Covid-19 Protocols Access To Airports – FAAN

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria has threatened to deny Very Important Personalities who flaunt Covid- 19 protocols access to the airports.

The agency said this on Friday, following the breach of the Federal Government approved COVID- 19 protocols at the country’s airports.

Recall that former Governor of Zamfara State  Alhaji Abdulaziz Yari, and Governor of Adamawa State, Alhaji Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, had fragrantly refused to observe the airport security protocols at the Aminu Kano International Airport and the Port Harcourt International Airport.

FAAN had condemned  their actions labelling it as “irresponsible.”

The protocols  were intended to protect all airport users, and to curb the spread of Covid-19 pandemic.  

In the latest reaction to the development, the agency said that it would deny any one who flouted the protocols access to the airport, irrespective of their status.

FAAN said, “They (Covid-19 protocols) were intended to protect all airport users, and to curb the spread of COVID-19 pandemic. By their actions, the two personalities put at risk not only themselves, but also other airport users.

“These protocols are now part of the new normal all over the world, and no person, no matter how highly placed, is exempted from them, else he would be denied access to our facilities.

“FAAN wishes to restate the need for all air travelers to strictly adhere to the security, Public health and operational protocols put in place to make air travel in the country safe, secure, and efficient,especially in the midst of this pandemic.”

The Authority said that it holds all officials of state in high esteem, and accords them all the courtesies their status deserves,

“Therefore, FAAN has no personal issues with Alhaji Abdulaziz Yari and Governor Fintiri,” it added.

The agency further said that Government officials and other Very Important Personalities should not only comply with the rules, but provide leadership for other air travelers, by projecting good conduct, and protecting public safety.

The agency said it would continue to enforce the protocols as well as advise all air travelers to adhere strictly to the protocols.
