The ALGON Chairman, Hon. Michael Ibe Nwoke, spoke on behalf of the association at the launch of the Abia State Security Trust Fund/Deployment of the Security Support and Resident Card which took place at the Michael Okpara Auditorium, Umuahia.

The Fund is backed by the State Law No. 4 of March, 2020 as it is designed to help the South-East States pull resources from both public and private sectors to complement the government’s efforts at providing enhanced and integrate the state’s security structure.

Nwoke said, “The seventeen chairmen of the state will support the trust fund spiritually, physically and financially because it is our responsibility to ensure that lives are protected at all levels especially the grassroots.”

The development is happening at a time when the region has been under security threat which has impacted economic activities.

At the early stage of the conversation over three years ago, the state had said the money raised from the security fund would be used to procure high-tech security equipment, vehicles and cater for the welfare of the security personnel.

The fund’s committee chair, Chief Ukpai Agwu Ukpai had in 2018 explained that the Fund was inline with Governor Okezie Ikpeazu’s target to beef up security in the state.

Nwoke said during the launch that the security of the state cannot be jeopardized considering the rising threat of insecurity across the country.
