Yahaya Bello Plans To Sack Over 60% Of Kogi Workers – NLC

The Kogi State Chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has accused the Governor of the State, Yahaya Bello, of planning to retrench sixty percent of workers in the state.
This is coming after the workers embarked on an indefinite strike on June 27, 2016, following a directive from leadership of both the NLC and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) in the state.
In joint bulletin issued by both the NLC, TUC and JPSNC, and signed by the Kogi State NLC chairman, Onu Edoka, and the TUC Chairman, Ojo Matthew, the labour leadership have asked workers in the state to continue to stay at home since the governor, Yahaya Bello, had resorted to blackmail the labour union leaders, rather than making efforts to meet workers’ legitimate demands.

The bulletin reads in part: “Government wanted to hide under the screening documents so that it can use our signatures for its illicit intention to lay off over 60 per cent of the workforce across the state.”
Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Strategy, Alhaji Abdukareem Abdumalik, however disclaimed the allegation, simply describing it as “false”.
