You Can Now Design Your Personal Emoji On Snapchat

Snapchat on Tuesday began rolling out a new feature that let users share personalised emoji or Sticker with friends in conversations and updates.

Thanks to the Bitmoji app’s integration with Snapchat. It is the first time Snapchat is seemingly putting its purchase of the company to use since it acquired it earlier this year for a reported fee of $100 million.

The Venice, California based company announced the new feature with a comic strip made of Bitmoji-style characters.

Bitmoji is an app made by Bitstrips — that Snapchat reportedly acquired for $100 million — which allows people to create funny emojis designed to bear a striking resemblance to their physical appearance. Bitmojis are popularly used in text messages and on Facebook Messenger.

It launched on Facebook in late 2012, nearly a year before debuting on iOS and Android. Those already expressing themselves via lookalike Bitstrips emoji can link their accounts in Snapchat; everyone else must first download the Bitmoji app to create stylized figures.

“We fell in love with the Bitmoji team and their amazing products, and we are so excited to welcome them as a new part of the Snapchat family,” CEO Evan Spiegel said in a statement.

Despite the acquisition, Snapchat has allowed Bitmoji to function as an independent app and this is set to continue. Additionally, the Bitstrips team will continue to be based in Toronto instead of moving to Snapchat’s office in California.

The company also told its more than 150 million daily active users that Bitmoji will evolve in coming months.

How to use Bitmoji on Snapchat
Firstly update your Snapchat app, install the Bitmoji app and click the gear icon to open settings in Snapchat.

Bitmoji can be sent in chats, or added as stickers to individual Snaps. To add a sticker, create your Snap in the usual way – by taking a picture or a video – and click the paper icon next to the text edit ‘T’ in the top right-hand corner.

Click the face icon and select which Bitmoji you want to add. And if your friends are using Bitmoji on Snapchat too, you can use ‘friendmoji’ – two person emojis based on whoever you’re speaking to.
