‘Your Judgment Is Final’. PDP Tells Supreme Court Not To Review Bayelsa Verdict

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has asked the Supreme court to note that its judgment in the Bayelsa governorship was final and that Douye Diri should remain governor of the state.

The All Progressive Congress (APC) had asked for a review of the Court’s judgment which nullified the election of f David Lyon, the former governor-elect of the state.

A seven-man panel led by Sylvester Ngunta is hearing the case today, Wednesday.

Counsel to the APC and David Lyon had prayed the court to set side its judgment, adding that it was a ‘human error’.

But PDP’s counsel led by Tayo Oyeti told the court that a Supreme Court’s decision is final.

“The order of the court is final forever,” Oyeti said.

PDP’s counsel also said that the court cannot set aside a decision it “thoroughly” made, adding that the panel should dismiss APC’s application.

They argued that the court cannot go outside constitutional provisions to review its decision immediately after judgment.

They also said that the judgment given on February 13 was from the highest court in the land.

PDP’s counsel said the request of APC will cause instability in the state.

They urged the court to refuse the application in the interest of the survival of the country and for “totally lacking merit”.
