You’re Not Messiah, Arewa Youths Knock OBJ For Attacking Buhari

The Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF) has criticized former President, Olusegun Obasanjo for his attacks on President Muhammadu Buhari.

The northern youth group in a statement on Friday said Obasanjo has turned himself into a self-appointed messiah in trying to address the problems of the country, which people like himself created.

Recall that Obasanjo had recently described the Buhari administration as incompetent and failure, advising Nigerians against re-electing the President in 2019.

The former president also had in January written a 13-paged letter, calling for Buhari’s retirement in 2019, saying the president should not “over-tax the patience and tolerance of Nigerians for him.”

Obasanjo said Buhari, apart from being bereft of the necessary ideas that could move the country out its current doldrums, has been unduly “nepotic” in his appointments.

But in the statement signed by the AYCF National President, Alhaji Yerima Shettima, the group said the former president’s antics has been “disastrous for the country”.

It further described Obasanjo’s moves as a desperation to make himself Nigeria’s democratic superman, while advising Nigerians to ignore the former President’s rantings.

“For quite some time, former President Olusegun Obasanjo has turned himself into a self-appointed messiah in the efforts to define the political and democratic future of this country,” the group said.

“And the result of this meddlesomeness by the former president has been disastrous for the country.

“Much as we are equally disappointed in the underperformance of President Buhari, we are not blinded by the fact that Obasanjo has no moral high ground for his repeated attacks on Buhari.

“The current president may have his serious shortcomings but he is still morally a better leader than Obasanjo.

“We challenge Obasanjo to tell us any of the current political and economic difficulties confronting the nation that are not connected to his meddlesomeness and manipulations. Let him exonerate himself from the current mess facing the country, if at all he can.

“It will no longer be acceptable for any old cargo to decide the fate of over 160 million Nigerians. We have had enough of this domineering old men in the democratic space and we are now saying it is over.

“We have warned, whoever has ear, let him hear!,” the statement added.
