Why I Failed To Deliver 5m Votes I Promised Buhari – Ganduje

Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, has explained his failure to deliver the 5 million votes he earlier promised President Muhammadu Buhari in the state in last Saturday’s presidential election.

Ganduje had before President Buhari declared his intention to seek re-election last year said, ‘if eventually he agreed to contest 2019 general election, I assured you, we will give you five million votes,” adding that, “We have seen in this election was a clear indication that Kano is APC and ready to contribute to its success any time.”

But results collated for Kano in last Saturday’s election showed that Buhari scored 1,464,768, votes, which was far from what the Kano State Governor promised the President.

Data from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) also showed that while registered voters in the state was 5,391,581, the number of accredited voters were 2,006,410 while the total votes cast was put at 1,964,751.

Speaking on why he failed to deliver the five million votes he promised the President, Ganduje said: “Well, I told you it is because of the low turnout of voters. But I promise You next time…let’s look towards the governorship election.’’

On his chances of re-election as Kano Governor, he said: “My chances are very bright and you can see the beginning of it with the presidential election. We gave Mr President the highest number of votes, all the three senators are back, 24 House of Representatives members out of 24 have succeeded. What else are you expecting? That is the foundation. Another thing is that Mr President has done a lot of work in Nigeria and in Kano and as a government we have done a lot in Kano State.

“If there was negative reaction we would have seen it from the presidential election. That is why I say we are heading for a huge success in Kano both in the gubernatorial and state house of Assembly elections.”
