26-Yr-Old Kills, Buries Own Father In Shallow Grave In Anambra

Police operatives attached to Umunze Division in collaboration with a local vigilante group, Saturday, arrested one Chisom Ogum, 26, of Umuomaku Community in Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State for allegedly killing his own father and burying him in a shallow grave.

The incident occurred around 6am.

SP Haruna Mohammed, the state police PRO, in a statement, said, “The suspect allegedly ran amok in a circumstances yet to be ascertained, attacked and killed his own biological father, one Christopher Ogum, 70 years old, of the same address, with a shovel and buried him in a shallow grave.

The suspect attempted to escape before he was apprehended and beaten to stupor by angry mob who equally forced him to exhume the corpse of his father from where he buried it.”

Mr Mohammed said police detectives had visited the scene of the crime, photographed the victim and took the corpse to the mortuary for autopsy after it was certified dead by a medical doctor at Umunze General Hospital.

He added that the offensive weapon used in perpetrating the offence was also recovered as an exhibit while the state commissioner of police, CP John B. Abang, had ordered that the case to be transferred to the state CID, Awka, for discreet investigation.
