Abia Assembly Resolves Controversy Over Authentic Monach Of Nneji Autonomous Community

Abia State House of Assembly has passed a resolution calling on the state’s Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs to withdraw the certificate of recognition given to Samuel Nwosu as the Ugwumba II of Nneji autonomous community, in Ugwunagbo LGA of the state.

The House, which made the resolution on Tuesday, also ordered that the certificate of recognition be given to Eze Ikedichi Uzoeji.

Speaker,  Emmanuel Emeruwa, who announced the resolution, further said the former Permanent Secretary of the ministry,Mrs J.C Nwanju, who gave Nwosu the certificate of recognition be sanctioned for her action.

The resolution followed controversy generated by the issuance of certificate of recognition to Nwosu in alleged contravention of the community’s constitution and zoning arrangement.

According to Chinasa Abiola, the House committee chairman on LGA and chieftaincy affairs, Nwosu  and Ikedichi were both issued certificates of recognition by Mrs Nwanju—a decision he condemned as wrong and inappropriate.

He said, ” We have investigated the issue that caused unrest in the Nneji Autonomous community and we have all evidence intact, the community has a zoning pattern and according to their constitution, the rightful Eze should be Ikedichi.

“Unfortunately Samuel Nwosu is a kingmaker, following investigations and evidence, Samuel brought up an argument that Ikedichi is Nwa Nwa (Grandchild) and for that , he’s ineligible to become the Eze of Nneji Autonomous community.

“To restore peace to the community, we have to follow the constitution which says there will be a rotation of the Ezeship title. However, we did not withdraw, neither did we issue any certificate during the resolution,  rather we made the certificate of Samuel Nwosu null as against that of Ikedichi, as both parties have already been issued a certificate of recognition by the former Permanent Secretary.”

Chinasa said Governor Alex Otti has been working hard to create a state of peace and orderliness, a reason he said the House decided to quickly end the controversy.
