The police boss, it was learnt, would be replaced by Assistant Inspector General of Police, Mr Abubakar Adamu Mohammed, an indigene of Nasarawa state and former AIG in charge of zone 5.

Among notable early reactions to Mr Idris’s retirement is one from the publisher of Ovation International Magazine, Mr Dele Momodu.

Momodu described Idris as a “troublesome” and “overzealousness” police chief who chose service to “his masters” above his service to the nation.

The publisher tweeted, ” Wow, whatever has a beginning must have an end… So, after all the gra gra of our troublesome Inspector General of Police, and the overzealousness to please his masters instead of his country, retirement eventually came… Goodbye Mr Ibrahim Idris…”
