‘Akeredolu Must Be Careful… With Me’-Wike Reacts To Gov’s Threat

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has said the Ondo State Governor, Mr Rotimi Akeredolu, cannot stop him from entering the state to support the Peoples Democratic Party’s governorship candidate, Eyitayo Jegede.

The governorship election in Ondo State is scheduled to hold on October 10 and there have been altercations between the two governors.

The Ondo State poll is a three-horse race between Akeredolu of the All Progressives Congress; his deputy, Agboola Ajayi, who is contesting on the platform of the Zenith Labour Party and Jegede, the PDP candidate.

But Wike, who spoke in a special interview monitored by our correspondent on the African Independent Television on Monday, said he could not be stopped from going to Ondo State.

Wike led some PDP governors and chieftains to Edo State for the reelection of Governor Godwin Obaseki who eventually defeated the All Progressives Congress candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu.

He said his party told him that Akeredolu had not done well to deserve a re-election and that he beleived it.

He urged the governor to face his campaign and leave others to do theirs in the interest of peace.

Wike said, ” I will advise Ondo people to protect their votes. They should repeat what happened in. Edo State.

“They would be intimidated, they would be cajoled, they would do all kinds of things against them. But in fighting for freedom, sacrifices must be made. They must know that they have to fight for their freedom and they will be intimidated. It’s for them to say yes, we can stand it.

“But for Governor Akeredolu to tell me that Governor Wike, you have been declared persona non grata, he knows he can’t do that. He came here to campaign in one of our by-elections and he spoke Yoruba , he can do that. But he can’t say that ( to declare me persona non grata).

“If he said that, I want to read it from the newspapers and hear it from him. But to now say, he has declared me persona non grata, from where? He knows he can’t try that.

“He doesn’t even have the capacity to say it. Even if he has that , he must be careful because you don’t say things like that to somebody like me. if he says so, I will be there tomorrow.”
