Akunyili: FG May Declare State Of Emergency Before Election, Ohanaeze Warns

Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, the apex socio-cultural organization in Igboland has warned that the federal government may declare a state of emergency in Anambra State as a result of the “barbaric’ killing of  Dr Chike Akunyili, the husband of late NAFDAC DG, Dora Akunyili.

The late Akunyili was gruesomely killed by unknown gunmen on Tuesday as he was returning to Enugu from a meeting in Onitsha.

In a statement made available to newsmen on Wednesday through its Secretary-General, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro,  Ohanaeze condemned the killing while urging Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State  to ensure that the killers are brought to book urgently.

The statement read: “The slaughter of Dr. Chike Akunyili, the husband of late Prof Dora Akunyili is atrocious, horrendous, unacceptable, and barbaric.

“Governor Willie Obiano should ensure that the perpetrators of this heinous crime and murder are brought to face the consequences of their actions before the laws of the land.

“FG might use the pretense of the proclamation of the southeast as a RED ZONE to declare a state of emergency in Anambra state before the Anambra Guber elections.”
