APC Senators ‘Shelve’ Impeachment Plot Against Saraki

There are indications that the quest by senators of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to impeach Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki, may have been abandoned by the lawmakers.

It was learnt that both the APC senators and those of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) reached a truce on Tuesday not to embark on the planned impeachment plot.

Recall that following the mass defection of the some senators, including Saraki, from the APC to the PDP in July, the National Chairman of the ruling party, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, had been calling on the Senate President to cede his position or face impeachment by senators of the ruling party.

The Senate had immediately embarked on over two months recess after about 14 senators defected from the ruling party to the opposition PDP.

It was expected that senators of the APC would move to impeach Saraki as the Senate resumed plenary on Tuesday.

But according to fresh reports, senators of both parties held a meeting yesterday where they supposedly agreed to abandon the impeachment plot and concentrate on bills pertaining to pressing national issues.

Meanwhile, when asked to speak on the alleged impeachment plot against Saraki, Senate Majority Leader Lawan Ahmed, said: “No, I don’t have anything to do with that. I want my government to succeed; I want President Muhammadu Buhari to succeed.”
