The family source said the slain colonel’s wife, Mrs Lucy, left Port Harcourt, Rivers State, for Abuja on Wednesday and had been conveyed to Maiduguri by the army to witness her husband’s burial.

Elemele alongside an army captain and four other soldiers of the brigade were said to have been killed on July 17, 2019, by members of the ISWAP-affiliated Boko Haram insurgents while disembarking after an assignment from Damaturu in Yobe State to Maiduguri, the Borno State capital. The ambush took place in the Jakana area of the state.
