Bauchi Imposes Total Lockdown On Three Local Governments Due To Rising Coronavirus Cases

Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has imposed total lockdown on three local governments areas in the state.

The local councils are: Katagum, Giade and Zaki.

According to Mohammed, the lockdown on the three council areas became necessary following the rising cases of Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Reports have it that Azare, in Katagum Local Government Area, has 27 cases out of the 44 cases reported Sunday morning.

Bala noted that all the cases were due to community transmission.

The 10 days lockdown takes effect from 6pm on Tuesday, 12th of May.

Meanwhile, there have been reported cases of deaths in the state, believed to be COVID-19 related.

The death toll is said to be about 100.

A member of the House of Representatives, Ibrahim Mohammed Baba had written a letter to President Muhammadu Buhari claiming that COVID-19 has killed over 100 people in Azare council, Bauchi State. The letter was also copied to the Chairman of the Presidential Task Force (PTF), Boss Mustapha.

The state government has also denied the reports that the deaths were as a result of the virus, but, said they were caused by seasonal heatwave.
