Bayelsa Governor Diri, Ewhrudjakpo Wins At Supreme Court

The Supreme Court on Wednesday dismissed the lawsuits filed against the election of Governor Duoye Diri of Bayelsa State and his deputy, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, while affirming their victory.

A seven-man panel led by Justice Ngwuta gave the judgement after counsels to the Alliance for Democracy, Advanced Nigeria Democratic Party, Labour Movement and Accord Party withdrew their appeals.

THE WHISTLER reported that the Bayelsa State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal had on August 17, removed Diri from office on the grounds that the Advanced Nigeria Democratic Party and its candidate, King George, were unlawfully excluded from the governorship election.

But the governor approached the Court of Appeal for redress.

Eventually, the court, on October 2, overturned the judgement, and ruled that Diri was duly elected.
