The discovery had informed findings by the police on the activities of the suspects, whose escape through the Sankara area of Benue was foiled by operatives of the force.
Anene said the suspects were members of a 10-man syndicate of kidnappers, adding that the police had trailed the fleeing suspects and arrested eight of them.

She said upon their arrest, the suspects agreed to lead the operatives to Tavachan forest in Mbamon, Kastina-Ala Local Government Area of Benue, where they buried their victims.

The spokesperson described the discovery to include a deep well and a shallow grave with decomposed bodies of the suspects’ victims.

Anene said, “Suspects confessed that some of the victims died due to inability to survive the trauma of being held hostage while others were killed for not paying the required ransom.
