Blame Past Leaders, Not Buhari For Southeast Woes-Onyeama

Callers on the Radio Nigeria, Enugu, Igbo programme, ‘Ka Oha Malu’, Saturday, agreed with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, that President Muhammadu Buhari administration has done well for Ndigbo and that Igbo political leaders as well as past federal government administrations are to blame for the decay in federal infrastructure in the Southeast zone of the country.

According to them, President Mohammed Buhari had done quite a lot in the zone in terms infrastructural development, adding that Southeast representatives at the national level had not done much in the interest of the zone.

They cited the renovation of the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu; ongoing rehabilitation of the Enugu-Onitsha expressway, the second Niger Bridge, among others, to buttress their points.

The guest on the programme and minister of foreign affairs, Mr Geoffrey Onyeama, had called on the people of the zone to join hands with the Buhari administration to move the country forward. According to him, “We have all got roles to play. This government has done a lot across the federation, Southeast inclusive. It curtailed corruption through its single treasury account. Already work is ongoing on the Enugu-Onitsha expressway. Work on the Port-Harcourt expressway will soon commence. This administration has initiated many empowerment schemes to alleviate poverty amongst the citizenry.”

He said the federal government was doing its best with the available resources, adding that similar infrastructural deficits were being addressed across other parts of the country.
