Defence Spokesman, John Enenche, who disclosed this in a statement, however, said soldiers responded to the attack by killing eight of the terrorists, while others fled with gunshot wounds.

He said: “During the incident, 8 BHTs were neutralised and uncomfirmed number escaped with gun shots wounds. Unfortunately, three soldiers were fatally wounded and later gave up the ghost at the military medical reception station at Kukawa military location. Two others also sustained injuries and are currently receiving treatment at the military medical station.”

According to him, life was already picking up in the town following the recent flag off of the re-opening of Munguno-Cross Kauwa-Kukawa Road.

He said this was followed almost immediately with the resettlement of some of the displaced people by the state Governor, Babagana Zulum .

He added that the attack by the terrorists was a “deliberate attempt to reverse the milestone achievements recorded regarding IDPs in the areas of; peace building, reconstruction, rehabilitation and resettlement efforts by the government.”

The defence spokesman further called on people of Kukawa to go about their normal lawful businesses as calm has been restored with troops in full control.

THE WHISTLER recalls that about 20 soldiers and 40 civilians were in June killed and several others injured in a twin attack carried out by the terrorist sect.

The attacks came just days after the terrorist group attacked a village in Gubio Local Government of the state, killing over 80 people.
