Breaking: Gunmen Attack B Division Police Station, INEC Office In Awka

Unknown gunmen have reportedly attacked B’ division police station in Awka, the Anambra State capital on Sunday.

The assailants were said to have invaded the police facility late Sunday night, shooting sporadically into the air.

THE WHISTLER gathered the armed men were in mufti and paraded the streets, causing panic among residents and students in the affected area, as many scampered for safety.

A staff of the Anambra State Broadcasting Station (ABS), Stanley, told THE WHISTLER, “I was sleeping when their gunshot to woke me up. I am at home but I just finished speaking with those at the office for night shift and they said they are currently hiding in the bush because men with guns are in the station, and they are wearing mufti”.

He told this newspaper that gunmen had attacked the police station.

Our source who stays about two kilometers from the yet to be verified location of the attack said the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) is also under attack by armed men.

It is located behind the ABS.

THE WHISTLER had contacted the Anambra Police Spokesperson Ikenga Tochukwu, but all calls to his mobile phones were not answered. He, however received the text sent to him by our reporter via his WhatsApp number.
