Supreme Court Stands Down Judgment In Bayelsa Governorship Review

The Supreme Court has temporarily postponed its ruling in the application filed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) seeking a review of an earlier judgment that sacked its candidate, David Lyon, as the governor-elect of Bayelsa State.

A seven-man panel led by Justice Sylvester Ngwuta is expected to deliver a judgement to determine Lyon’s fate in the controversial Bayelsa governorship poll.

The judgement is expected to be delivered later today.

THE WHISTLER reported how a panel of the apex court led by Justice Mary Odili sacked Lyon as governor-elect, while ordering the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognize a candidate who came second in the November 16 election as governor.

The court annulled Lyon’s election for presenting a running mate with forged certificates in the election.

INEC had consequently announced Douye Diri of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the validly elected governor of the state, after voiding the votes garnered by the APC in the poll.

But the APC returned to the Supreme Court to seek a review of the judgement that disqualified its candidate.
