Buhari Cancels FEC Meeting, Directs Ministers To Make Inputs To Predecessors’ Memos

President Muhammadu Buhari has cancelled the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting scheduled for tomorrow, Wednesday, September 4, 2019.

Presidential spokesperson, Garba Shehu, announced in a statement on Tuesday that the postponement was to “allow Ministers who were recently sworn in have their inputs in the memos sent by their predecessors in office.”

Shehu noted that the Presidency had returned all the memos earlier submitted to the Council for consideration to their various Ministries.

The presidential aide also said the postponement was to “enable the Ministers, who are still taking briefs from bureaucrats in the Ministries and familiarizing themselves with their work space, have more time to contribute to discussions at the meeting.

“They will also utilize the period of the break to work towards the early preparation and submission of the 2020 budget estimates,” said Shehu.

Recall that last weeks FEC meeting did not hold owing to President Muhammadu Buhari’s absence.

Buhari had left the country to attend the Seventh Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD7) in Yokohama, Japan.

Vice-President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo, could not preside over last weeks FEC meeting as he was chairing the economic management meeting held last week.
