It was dramatic on Wednesday evening in Abuja, Nigeria’s federal capital territory as operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) raided the offices of the First Group Company, a Dubai property firm.

The raid, The Whistler learnt, is part of President Muhammadu Buhari’s ongoing anti-graft war to track how over $200 billion was allegedly siphoned out of the country by corrupt officials mainly to the United Arab Emirate.

The EFCC team raided the company’s seventh-floor office at the Bank of Industry building in the Central Business District of the FCT after obtaining a search warrant from a magistrate.

The company is also being investigated for allegedly defrauding unsuspecting Nigerians by luring them to invest in real estate in Dubai.

However, the raid may not be unconnected to the ‘swindling’ of a prominent Nigerian who is alleged to have lost about $402, 000 (N145million) in a phony real estate transaction with the company.

It would be recalled that the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Burutai is facing public backlash over his purchase of two choice properties in Dubai.

The raid may not be unconnected with the leaking of the sensitive information believed to have occurred at the First Group Company’s office.

In early January, 2016, President Buhari signed six agreements with the UAE aimed at enhancing bilateral relations between them.

One of the agreements signed was the Judicial Agreements on Extradition, Transfer of Sentenced Persons, Mutual Legal Assistance on Criminal Matters, and Mutual Legal Assistance on Criminal and Commercial Matters including the recovery and repatriation of stolen wealth.
