Buhari, NIDCOM Celebrate Nigerian Appointed Canada’s Provincial Justice Minister

President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday celebrated the appointment of a Nigerian, Kaycee Madu, as Canadian Minister of Justice and Solicitor General for Alberta Province.

The President described the elevation as a “landmark and historic” achievement.

The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission also joined in celebrating Madu, saying that he had done honour to Nigeria.

“Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman/CEO, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) has congratulated Mr Kaycee Madu, a Nigerian based in Canada on his appointment as the first black Minister of Justice and Solicitor General for the government of Alberta,” NIDCOM tweeted on Thursday.

NIDCOM’s Chairperson, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, noted that as the first Nigerian Black Canadian minister, the achievement was proof of his ingenuity, integrity and resourcefulness.

“We are so happy for Mr Madu on his well-deserved appointment.

“This confirms our saying that our Diasporans are our greatest asset making us proud globally,” she said.

She urged Madu to promote the rule of law in his jurisdiction while urging others to emulate his example.

She also urged his colleagues to assist him in succeeding in his new appointment.

“In 2019, Madu made history by becoming the first African-born provincial Minister in Canadian history.

“In 2020, he makes history again as the first Black Justice Minister and Solicitor General in Canada.

“We are proud of Madu and wish him success in his new role”, Dabiri added.

The Premier of Alberta, Jason Kenny, had on Wednesday, named Madu as the next qualified person to occupy the position.

On his part, Madu, in a tweet, accepted the appointment with delight, assuring of delivering his best in that capacity.

“Thank you, everyone, for all the well wishes.

“I am beyond humbled to accept my new role as Minister of Justice and Solicitor General – where I will pursue fairness, equality, and justice for all with every ounce of strength I have,” he stated.
