Buhari Nominates Lauretta Onochie, Three Others As INEC Commissioners

President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday nominated Lauretta Onochie, his Special Assistant on Social Media as a National Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Buhari nominated Onochie to represent Delta State.

The President sent her name, alongside Prof. Mohammed Sani, representing Katsina; Prof. Kunle Ajayi (Ekiti) and Seidu Ahmed (Jigawa) also as national commissioners to the Senate for screening and confirmation.

President of the Senate, Ahmed Lawan, read out the President’s letter of request at plenary on Tuesday.

According to Buhari, the nominations were pursuant to Paragraph 14 of part 1F of the First Schedule of the 1999 Constitution.
