Buhari Receives RCCG’s Adeboye As CAMA Storm Rages

President Muhammadu Buhari has received the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Monday.

Buhari’s meeting with Adeboye had in attendance the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, and the president’s chief of staff, Ibrahim Gambari.

The agenda of the meeting is unknown, but Adeboye’s visit to the State House came amid the controversy trailing the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA) recently signed by President Buhari.

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and other prominent men of God had rejected the amended law, describing it as “unacceptable and ungodly”.

The new CAMA provides that religious bodies and charity organizations would be regulated by the registrar of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and a supervising minister.

But the presiding Bishop of the Living Faith Church Worldwide, David Oyedepo, who was one of the prominent voices to first speak against the amended law, had asked the federal government to “expunge that part that affects the religious body from that document” as the CAC registrar and supervising minister may one day “appoint occultists to be managers of church affairs.”

CAN had said, “The law, to say the least, is unacceptable, ungodly, reprehensible and an ill-wind that blows no one any good. It is a time bomb waiting to explode,” adding that, “The satanic section of the controversial and ungodly law is Section 839 (1) &(2) which empowers the Commission to suspend trustees of an association (in this case, the church) and appoint the interim managers to manage the affairs of the association for some given reasons.”
