Bye-Elections: APC Wins Jigawa Reps Seat As PDP Takes Kaduna Assembly Seat

Yusuf Galambi, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has won Saturday’s bye-election in Gwaram federal constituency of Jigawa State.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Galambi as winner of the election after polling 29,372 votes to defeat Kamilu Inuwa of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who scored 10,047 votes.

INEC returning officer, Prof. Ahmad Shehu, announced the outcome of the election on Sunday.

“Galambi, having secured the highest number of votes in the bye-election, is hereby declared the winner,” he said.

The House of Representatives seat became vacant following the death of the previous occupant, Hassan Kila.

Meanwhile, the electoral body also declared PDP’s Usman Baba as winner of the Kaduna State House of Assembly bye-election for Sabon Gari constituency.

Baba won the election after scoring 9,113 votes to defeat APC’s Musa Musa who got 7, 404 votes, said returning officer, Dr Mohammed-Nuruddin Musa.

Aminu Shagali, who previously occupied the position, had reportedly stopped participating in legislative activities for more than 360 days, hence the house declared his seat vacant.

Prior to deserting his office, Shagali had been impeached as Speaker of the House and replaced by Yusuf Zailani in 2020.

The Kaduna assembly lawmakers had also ordered him to tender a written apology for allegedly disrupting a sitting of the House.

Premium Times reported that his refusal to tender the apology as well as his non-participation in legislative activities for one year prompted the House to declare his seat vacant.
